Alexandra de Nooy
- PhD Fellow
Alex is supervised by Dr Brooke Nichols. Her doctoral research, Mathematical modelling to guide the development of novel tuberculosis diagnostics, has used modelling, cost-effectiveness analyses and data analytics to guide policy and national decision-makers on the implementation and development of new TB diagnostics. This includes conducting modelling for the World Health Organization’s latest screening and diagnostic target product profiles, as well as providing evidence to support South Africa’s roll-out of targeted next-generation sequencing for drug-resistance testing. In conjunction with work on TB, Alex works on estimating the programmatic impact of HIV diagnostics as well as on building analyses and tools to support future prioritization and implementation of HIV services.
Before joining AIGHD, Alex earned an MSc in data science and worked as a data scientist at Right to Care in South Africa, where she supported provincial HIV implementation and the Covid-19 response. Alongside her research, Alex serves as a PhD representative for AIGHD fellows.
