Bas van der Klaauw is Professor in Policy Evaluation at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He uses microeconometric methods for causal analysis in the field of labor, education and health. In 2008, he received an ERC Starting Grant and in 2016 a VICI grant from the NWO (Dutch Research Council). In 2023, Bas van der Klaauw was appointed as general director of the Tinbergen Institute, a research school of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and the University of Amsterdam that hosts research master’s programs in Economics, Finance, and Business Data Science. Since 2025, he has been chair of the Department of Economics of the Vrije Universiteit. Bas van der Klaauw is associated with IZA-Bonn and CEPR-London. Previously, he was program director of the MSc economics at the Vrije Universiteit and chair of the educational board at the Tinbergen Institute.
